Early Review For New Star Trek Movie
A New Zealand website TVNZ has an early review of the new Star Trek Movie. As a longtime fan, I am excited about this review. It is yet another positive review that seems to indicate the movie will accomplish a very difficult dual goal - be a crowd-pleaser for both fans of the Star Trek franchise as well as the younger audience.
This is simply critical if Star Trek is going to get the boost that I think it will need to support a new franchise under the helm of J.J. Abrams. Quite simply this film needs to be a big hit. It has a budget that has been reported to be anywhere between $150 million and $200 million. No previous Star Trek movie has cost as much as $100 million to produce.
However, while the previous Star Trek films have often been hits they have been middling successes in recent years. For Paramount pictures to go forward with future Star Trek films with this cast, this new feature needs to be a major hit. I would guess that it would need to gross $200 in the United States alone to justify a second (or twelfth) Star Trek film.
For this to happen things need to break right. The young crowd has to through out there preconceptions about what Star Trek is and the old crowd needs to be sufficiently thrilled with the product to pay to see it again and again. I suspect, with early word being as favorable as it has been, that the new Star Trek movie will be a big hit worldwide.
